About
Adam Thomas (born Adam James Roughley; 8th July 1980) is a critically acclaimed English soul and jazz singer from Wigston, Leicestershire. He has supported Mark Morrison, Alexander O'Neal, Michele McGrath, Avril O'Hanlon and others in concerts and is currently the resident vocalist at Leicester Tigers.
He is also the creative director at Mondiale Entertainment and project manager of the all-star charity concert, Toast & Jam.
Early life
Thomas began singing at the age of 16 when his school music teacher made him sing in an old time music hall production (as he was short of male actors.) He took BTEC Performing Arts at Guthlaxton College, Leicester under Brian Humpherson, who later became a member of Adam’s band. He began performing in many musical productions including The Wiz, Grease and even singing in the café of a local ASDA supermarket in order to support his college’s bid for performing arts college status. After seven years of theatre productions and tribute shows, he eventually moved away from being a straight forward cover artist to become, what he describes as, “an interpreter of music.” He attributes his love of music to his father, a professional musician himself.
Adam Thomas first became consumed by music in his early teens, listening to artists such as Stevie Wonder, Babyface, Edwin Starr and Blackstreet. Thomas said that the first time he heard the 1997 Babyface MTV Unplugged Album he was close to tears as it was “the perfect concert” and cites this as his biggest inspiration.
Cyprus
Whilst living in Cyprus, Thomas became the resident performer at the island’s most upmarket brasserie 'Artio' for their prime Saturday evening slot. Over the following two years, he performed at numerous prestigious events island-wide and built up a following of fans, resulting in being signed by Bloomfield Management after supporting Alexander O'Neal in concert. In his time there, Adam achieved critical acclaim for his performance at Limassol’s Montecaputo theatre and starred in the Variety Club’s charity spectacular at the prestigious Amathus Hotel. Thomas returned to the UK to prepare for his ‘Under The Influence’ album and tour in 2009.
Recent work
Thomas has performed live on BBC Radio Leicester and Radio Fox, at the turning on of the Christmas lights in Nottingham and headlined the Christmas spectacular ‘Snow Ball.’ Thomas recently sang at The National Wedding Show (at The NEC) and The Wedding Show (at Tatton Park.) Thomas also headlined the LOROS 25th Anniversary Ball as well as open proceedings at the The Relay For Life concert on the pitch at the Leicester Tigers.
The most successful release to date, Our First Dance is generally a love songs album and has received much acclaim from international media. Having sold very well in the United Kingdom, Cyprus and Spain, the album has continued to do very well on iTunes and AmazonMP3. The idea of the album was to inspire brides-to-be with a wide range of songs that would befit their first dance, however feedback has proven that the release is popular amongst a far wider audience than originally perceived.
Current
Toast & Jam
Toast & Jam is a charity concert starring musical, sporting all-stars in aid of The Matt Hampson Trust, Wishes 4 Kids and LOROS. The concert will take place on the Leicester Tigers pitch and will include performances by Mark Selby, Dan Hipkiss, Sam Vesty, George Chuter and many other sporting celebrities.
The concert is devised and produced by Mondiale Entertainment with support from Adam Thomas and his 22 piece concert orchestra. The event is due to take place late 2010.
Adam has been the resident corporate vocalist at Leicester Tigers for the past 5 years and continues to perform at shows and concerts at Welford Road, most notably at The Snow Ball and Relay For Life.
The Snow Ball is an annual Christmas show produced by Mondiale Entertainment hosted by Leicester Tigers. As most of Adam’s shows are private, The Snow Ball was devised to show his appreciation to his fan club.
Under The Influence: Carry The Torch
Under The Influence is currently in production and the release date is unconfirmed. The album will contain interpretations of Northern Soul and Motown classics with a planned live launch in August 2010.
Personal life
Thomas now resides in Kibworth, South Leicestershire and was married to his long-term girlfriend Sarah in August 2007 at Dunchurch Park, Warwickshire. He stated in a recent interview that his wedding day was “one of the happiest days of his life.” Adam hopes to ride from London to Paris for charity in 2011.
