yes, yet again we need more members of the soap opera that is our band. We require, in no particular order, a guitarist capable of lead work as most of our stuff is twin lead at the moment and a vocalist frontperson type who can write their own words and count their way through odd time signatures.

It should be pointed out that we are a thinking metal band, able to work in differing time signatures. to list our influences would takeforever but pm me and we can take it further if you are interested.

Thinking Metal? Much like Queensryche then? I love to play the weird and whacky. I am mostly a lead guitarist, so playing lead shouldn't be too much of a problem. Hit me up sometime if you're interested.

Gents, ta. We're kind of an oddity in that we do play loud and heavy but that really isn't it...

our drummer is an orchestra trained percussion chap and, if we're honest, has the greater musical knowledge of us all.

Our guitarist is a stupifyingly technical wizz who is fantastic as an individual but stellar with a sparing partner.

and I'm the bass player, used to be a guitarist, sound enough knowledge of scales, timing harmonies etc, usually rock a six string (yes I use all six strings), also own a seven string which is something of a work in progress. .

One of our most recent tunes has a break changing timing every bar (3/4, 5/4, 3/4, 2/4, 3/4, 5/4, 3/4, 4/4 I think).

it's kind of pointless to list influences as almost anything we listen to gets added to the mix in some way. We do like Iron Maiden though.

0.0 now i'm starting to get scared that i may not be technicle enough. however, i have a nice guitar, pod x3 for effects, and studio recording equipment. i can hold a tune vocal-wise, but i'm more of a growler really. I'm certainly no Geoff Tate or Bruce Dickinson. I am very different in my guitar style as well. Like to mess around with dissonent scales that probably don't even exist. Very much influenced by King Crimson.

I really ought to pay attention ocasionally, I'm the drummer of said band of musical misfits.

Hey John,

I wouldn't worry too much about comparible voices etc, our focus really is to get people in a room who function well as a musical unit and let things grow from there so we're not too worried about having exactly matching musical influences, it's more interesting to see where things go when you have no fixed plan so if you're up for it come down to a rehearsal and see how we get on and go from. Same for any other singers reading this.

Finally, for the record the section Tony is talking about is actually (3/4 5/4 4/4 2/4, 3/4 5/4 4/4 4/4 but then I start playing a straight four against it after a couple of times, he can play it even if not count it lol)

surely 3/4 5/4 is just 2 bars of 4/4 in which case isnt 3/4 5/4 4/4 2/4, 3/4 5/4 4/4 4/4 the same as 4/4 4/4 4/4 2/4, 4/4 4/4 4/4 4/4

brain hurts!

you could get away (especially as a singer) just singing basic 4/4 over the top (until the 2/4 bar) if you wished, which would make it a more melodic contrarhythm, but if it's a punchy song they're looking for, they'd want you to accentuate the rhythm too, which means splitting your accents and words so they fit over the mixed time signatures.

(i believe, without hearing or knowing it must be said)

both Graham and gem are right and as for the singing, whichever sounds better

The glorious thing about being a drummer is, if you're careful, you can be playing in a completely different time to everyone else, so your accents are in a different place but as long as the number of beats add up to the same total it's all good, except for sometimes the rest of your band gets frustrated and start throwing things at you so get good at ducking quick.
