Yo, thanks to all them what organised and sorted this out.

And thanks to red_riveira who sorted out replacing my overdriven vocal solo and Les Dawson piano homage with a radio thingamie - very good!

I am unfamiliar with the original versions of the songs (except the one I got drawn, coincidentally) so it's hard for me to compare and that, so, I will give it a while more. I was pleased that Aztec Camera's 'Somewhere In My Heart' managed to sneak its way in, and I would also agree that the Ultravox was very well done.

My review goes something like this

best track: Grandmaster Sean.

Worst track: for various reasons my own.

Most interested to hear: obviously, my nomination of Fugazi's classic Shut The Door (my favourite all time band and one of their best songs IMO) somehow Mr Daguerrotype managed to make the track sound not dissimilar to a Fall track - I also wondered what our own resident Mr Gear would make of their really sparse jagged sound (famously Ian plays through only an old JMP completely effects free and Guys rick is only processed by a vintage MXR boost for "solos")... the broad, widened FAT sound was unsuprising, the fuzz was unsuprising! nice drums too.

Gunishment: Payback in 2013: straight up and street level / big deal announcements and shit soon

Gunishment: URBAN PAYBACK : "TV on, tube is hot, chat shows, stop the rot, parasites through the city, skin pale, fucking pity""

Roused To Burning Homes : "Bride Nong: The Kali Yuga" PXM#0004!

cheers matey, I'm very chuffed with how it turned out, especially considering between hearing it for the first time and finishing it was 3 days. You seemed quite precious about the track, so may be interested to know that I decided to adopt the Fugazi method (work fast) & gear aesthetic as closely as possible.

In the absence of an SG, L guitar (Ian) was my homemade Jazzblaster > Line 6's Marshall JCM800 model on '10' into 4x12 with Greenbacks; guitar was turned down for the clean parts. see http://www.guitargeek.com/rigview/224/ Double mic'd with close SM57 and distant U87 for room sound. This was the first time I have recorded with a Marshall amp (or model) for about 8 years, I generally don't dig 'em. Quite liked this though!

R guitar (Guy) was Ric 360 > same JCM into 4x12 with Celestion 70s, but run clean, with Fredric Grumbly Wolf (D+ clone) for the distortion. See http://www.guitargeek.com/rigview/260/ . The only effects were the GW's Green Ringer ring mod kicked in just before the bells and a tiny, tiny bit of chorus on the outro harmonics. Again double mic'd same way.

Bass was my Yamaha SB-5A > Line 6 Ampeg SVT model > Ampeg 8x10 cab.

Drums via EZDrummer, with a compressed room sound blended in.

Bells from Roland XV-5050

Vocals were Rode NTK valve mic > Line 6 'Neve' model preamp > 'LA-2A' model compressor

What I left out: half the chorus riff and one or two variations on the bass  Sorry, just couldn't work it out. Oh, and The Fall? Can't see it meself, please explain...

yeah - I am very precious about Fugazi yeah - but I reckon you ""- the only bit where i felt you veered from the original was the bit where the bass changes after te second chorus and everything just drops out - I love that bit - quintessentially what make fugazi great. your cut wasnt as stark as theirs but obvz that part didnt strike you in the same way.

the fall - i just think it was a combination of the guitar sound and the bile of an english accent on the chorus.

Actually I was far more taken with the live version on youtube than the studio version ... wanted to incorporate a bit of that jam.

Put it down to the accent... "Shut the door-ah! So I can leave-ah! Handbag Chancellor postscript evaluation syndrome-ah!" The Fall don't bring the br00talZ guitars (bass, that's another matter)... never heard of any Fall guitarist use an SG or half-stack (Marshall or otherwise). Although Brix used to play a white Ric. If anyone sees a white Ric 330 / 360 for sale EVER... let me know.

Thanks Steve - and congratulations. When I started listening to your Vienna I thought 'oh no, not for me', but bloody hell, it won me over.

What I like about your arrangement most is the bits you chose to leave out (it makes sense to me). You made the lead vocal your own. some achievment given the status of the song you were dealing with.

As for my effort.

Yes - I'm happy with the vocalsand the arrangment came off nice, but I'm gutted at the quality of the recording. I had a sound in my head, but I didn't pull it off.

Pretty sure only one song from each artist (and in this case it's Tonight Pineapster) can feature in the chart at once.
