Analogue PRAG, Solid. Tapes and whatnot...just an idea and not a particular popular one so far. No one has to be rubbed with any body part, though, which might explain it's lack of popularity.

Would it be analogue and also acoustic? No computers, no drum machines?

When I first read the idea, I thought "I've got a 4 track simulator on my iPhone".

Does this count?

Well no computers means nearly everyone who has previously done PRAG is excluded?

Maybe the principle should be 'analogue where possible'. Regard the computer DAW as a 4-track, 8-track whatever. No 'undo', plug-ins, synths, emulators or drum machines... get access to the real thing, improvise or do without.

Anal ogue sounds, digital capabilties. If it's electric, Mic it?

I am up for that.

This was roughly my PRAG 2 restriction.

It's an interesting idea for sure but I'm not sure whether it would have much of an impact on my recording technique at all. That said, I'm no barometer, and the quality of recordings are testament to this.

My go to tools are drums and synths. I would love to go back to basics. I think this will challenge us. I like that.

How about making the challenge pretty basic (ie get a title) and assigned a level of brutality when it comes to tracking. As long as I am allowed to track in a DAW I will take anything you set. I think.

Some people will need to DI guitar and bass. Maybe allow 2 plugins

Some might have 4 tracks.

I'm up for the extreme. Bouncing down is a bit easier on DAW but maybe that's a limit you could set.

Anyone think a 3 tier system of brutality is fair?

It sounds alright to me, all considered. A nice swerve away from some of the more stylised challenges. Also up to the idea of just getting a track title.

It comes over as potentially more inclusive. Maybe attract some new faces.

A young friend of mine, really nice singer / guitarist, he follows the PRAG and has said he'd like to join in, but feels he's too inexperienced / under equiped. This would be ideal for someone like him.

Maybe a honesty points system is in order. You have to end up with a positive tally to qualify. eg

Reel to reel tape +15 points

4-track cassette +10 points

Use real amp, mic'd +3 points

Track vocals in a big room for natural reverb +5 points

Analogue pedal +1 point

Use DAW -10 points

Digital pedal or plug-in -1 point each

Use digital amp modelling -3 points per track

Use digital drum machine -5 points

Use autotune -10 billion points

etc, etc

I reckon I can get me a church for the day, no problem. Me and the vicar are well in. I used to be his milkman.

^ 20 points, easy!

This concept is growing on me. Without wanting to come across a total Luddite, it might promote some good old-fashioned songwriting because of the necessary simplicity. Of course, if you want to spend a month experimenting and crafting acoustic sounds, that's great too, but for those people who toss their PRAG off in the last 24 hours, an acoustic guitar and a mic would do it, rather than the 'kitchen sink epics' we usually have.

Do I get extra point for making my own amp?

It's in stereo.
