Witness a pub back room overloaded with 12 4 x12s and an 8 x 10 bass cab!

Glynfest presents a quite frankly devastingly awesome line-up of US underground noise:

CITY OF SHIPS
(http://www.myspace.com/cityofships)

Drew Juergens from Translation Loss on the signing and co-release:
“I could not be more excited about working with CITY OF SHIPS. Ever since I heard their tour EP and saw them live, I knew they were destined to create greatness. The new record is absolutely amazing and will take the world by surprise with its intrinsic groove and the jaw-dropping musicianship it presents.”
CITY OF SHIPS’ Translation Loss debut entitled “Look What God Did to Us” was tracked and mixed over two sessions in February and March of this year with producer Andrew Schneider at Translator Audio (Pelican, Made Out of Babies, Unsane) in Brooklyn, NY and will be mastered by Nick Zampiello at New Alliance East in Boston.

NEUROSIS // ENVY // PLANES MISTAKEN FOR STARS // TOOL // DREDG

“Pounding bass lines and quirky rhythms and structures that almost have a math metal sort of vibe, but there`s also a constant flow of all kinds of incredibly tactful "post-" influences, from lush clean passages and swirling, spacey effects to noisier layers of intense guitar work. I`m really fuckin` impressed by this material. Excellent.”
– Aversionline.com

“The group`s frenetic energy and obvious emotional stake in the music which they play is simultaneously impressive and inspiring.”
– Scenepointblank.com

“Amidst the ocean of droney post-rock, post-hardcore clones, there are only a couple bands that catch my attention. CITY OF SHIPS had me hooked from beginning to end.”
- Razorcake

“This takes me back to a time of discovering exciting new sounds in the underground scene that really blew minds, from KEROSENE 454 to ETHEL MESERVE — bands unhindered by genre and expressing endless enthusiasm for just playing great music. CITY OF SHIPS are hard to describe and easy to enjoy, both great things.”
- Exclaim Magazine

BRAVEYOUNG
(http://www.myspace.com/giantnc)

Based out of North Carolina, Giant started as the two peice post-metal project of brothers Isaac and Zac Jones in the fall of 2004. Growing musically, and not wanting to limit song writing, instrumentation, or ideas, they added long time friends and like minded musicians Derrick Wells, and Kyle Whisenant. Before recording their first 5 pieces of music in january of 2006, they solidified their line up with the addition of Rodney James. This opened up the ability to explore and dedicate themselves fully to their respective instruments and ideas, allowing also, room for growth in instrumentation and writing. furthermore, it allowed a solid base to begin touring and playing as much as possible. This, along with their forward thinking approach to current socio-political trends, is the foundation of an ever-growing machine to which the group currently whole-heartedly dedicates their lives.

With the introduction of "Song", Giant's 55 minute, five song CD released on startup label Southern Empire Records this past March, giant plans to tour full time, anywhere and everywhere possible with hopes of spreading their music and ideas to anyone that will hear. Every member feels incredibly strongly about creating a brand of music all their own, growing in every way possible, and not limiting themselves to any modern ways of musical trends and thought. Giant is these five dudes lives.
To avoid inevitable legal repercussions, they have decided to stop using the name Giant. Brave Young will be the name we now collectively function under. Nothing is changing, we are still the same band, but this has been a long time coming, and we are finally confident enough to go forward with it. It’s only a name. 2 new records in the works, watch out!!

Equally impressive UK based support from:

KHUDA
(www.myspace.com/khudamusic)

Khuda begin the gig in a very interesting fashion. Primarily a guitar and drum instrumental two piece, they combine simple, bludgeoning yet effective guitar riffs with more experimental rhythms and sections.

Michael Russam - Sandman Magazine

Josticks are lit and Once Twice Thrice kicks in with old style 70's guitar. I keep thinking I'm in a club somewhere, surrounded by dry ice, making my way through the drunken throng. Altered states, this is good. Floating down a long corridor. Everything's spinning. Slightly nauseous, but only because I'm having a good time.

The Arthritic Bear - Moose Factory

Pre gig, drummer Robin Timmis chats with someone in the audience. He looks too timid for tech. At first I am dubious, but the more I listen to Tom's harmonics and watch Robin do crazy jazz drummer things, the more I am convinced. This two man and pedal buffet are more Sunn o))) than Tenacious D, but there's evidence of both - Sunn o))) D? Small set, big sounds.

Rob Wright - Sandman Magazine

JOHN
(www.myspace.com/dissidentchannelworldwide)

A true outsider artist/musician, Leicester-based John has been disturbing and enchanting audiences with his bleakly beautiful guitar, deep voice and white noise performances for many moons. Don't miss out on an all too rare show by this incredible talent.

On the right line-up John would do well. With a skiffle band wasn't the right line-up - but such was the nature of The Attik's booking policy; adding acts to nights other people had organised ...

Debut album 'The Book of Common Despair' (Pink015) out now.

John is a true one-off who has the power to amaze and alienate an audience at the same time. He'll definitely mess with peoples ears in a different way to the rest of the line-up!Whether he's the right person to play this bill is debatable but people need to hear his music.

I've seen John play a few times over the years, he does not compromise.Vocally I've thought it was brilliant and awful, magical and unbearable all at the same time yet his classical guitar accompaniments to his unique voice are often very delicate and sweet.Audiences can be totally divided by it but this Glynfest slot is a good one for him.He strikes me as a very modest man as I never knew about his paintings and sculptures until now.

He is an incredibly modest chap and also appears very shy too; my friend Karen pointed him out to me when she was working at The Charlotte and he was playing to an empty room. I've kept in touch ever since and put him on before although he does suffer with his throat quite often so he has had to pull gigs unfortunately.
