Insect Warfare - world extermination

bascially - i love grindcore. i like the aesthetic so 99% of grindcore is ok by me (apart from fag grind and gore grind)... but this is a stonking bit of grind. takling pointers from old HC as much as old thrash to underpin the relentless blast beats / stop start dynamic. fucking totally shredding - gives modern grind kings PIG DESTROYER a run for their money.

Stonking record. Mixes pretty hard hitting, ever so slightly technical death metal with striaght up grindcore and some wonky psyche / proggy moments. great lyrics about stuff other than zombies and shit. I dont really dig technical detah metal anymore, or duggah duggah chuggah chuggah "extremity" - but these guys deliver death metal without deliving into those cliche areas. not quite as good as their CLIENTS album but more accesible than FED THROUGH THE TEETH MACHINE

plus the guitarist is called Gunface Mckenzie.

MAGRUDERGRIND album - Your basic grab-bag of everything that could possibly be awesome about grind/hardcore - fast bits, slower bits, stupid bits so on. Manages to avoid being formulaic by virtue of excellent song structure and tracks, well thought out playing order, as well a liberal dose of sarky bastard humor. 9 out of 10

Circle of dead children - Zero comfort margin

Relentless blastbeats? guttural slam? pitch shifted vocals? murky production? uneven mix? awesome lyrics? 15 tracks in less than 30 minutes? yup - its a deathgrind album. pretty good stuff with a standard dual (high and low) vocal attack. my main beef here is the drums are gutless as fuck and that detracts from the impact of the grind.

Earth - The Bees Made Honey in The Lion's Mouth. Majestic, ponderous soundtrack music; like a stoned Morricone but much better than that sounds. a big fat 9 out of 10.

Decided to keep it old school today - threw on Iron Maiden - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. By christ this record is equally awesome and utterly hilariously shit. Special mention to B Dickensteins spoken word bits, and the whole of 'Moonchild'. A thoroughly enjoyable 7 on 10

Also Old Man Gloom - No. Experminental v heavy doom/sludge/metal/etc. Lots of scary ambient soundscapes, lots of ytelling, lots of riffs that make your head feel like it caving in. 8 out of 10. 'No'? YES, more like

I think 7th son's Moonchild is THE quintessential and best track ever to happen as a result of NWOBHM - it all lead to that and tailed off immediately afterwards
