Well, you'll need to think about budget because a 12-16 channel mixer won't be cheap for a start. Think seriously about what you need, not what you want, before going further.

No. I want to hack one up for shits and giggles.

I don't recall slating them (much). I just don't like the look of them. I think the worst I've said is that they are a one trick pony bass. They do the trick very well but still lack versatility. I do, however, need to do that trick and need the look too.
