It's not a pretty pretty bullding, it's quite functionalist 60's looking, a boxy shape.
Inside it's gloriously like real pubs used to look like in the 60s 70s - said he who is old enough to remember that - and the array of real ales is the bestest in town.
There's no stage, one plays in front of the darts board lol.Somehow the combined vibe of the music, the ale, the people always makes for a great, intimate session.
For me it's wonderful to be able to stretch out, do lots of material and improvise / go off on tangents as I wish.I try to carry people with me, to keep it interesting, to move and surprise them.Here in the short attention span 21st century it's not always easy to pull that off and, to be honest, there's barely anywhere else where I reckon I'd have the platform to do it.. just a shame its not a Saturday one this time around as I get to do my 4 and a half hour set then!

In the end a mere 2 hours 45 minutes of pain and fun to a mere 4 people at one point.
If I didn't think it was great and special I'd be even more nuts than I actually am.Why people flock to see the latest singer songwriter from NYC do 45 mins for fifteen quid when they've got me howling on their doorstep for hours for free I've got no idea but maybe that's the problem, there's a world beyond the doorstep and I have to try to reach out for it.. and then I'll be accused of selling out by the doorstep..

Few Pineapstarians get to these which is a shame as the atmosphere at The Cri is lovely.. and truth be told it's about the only place that actually lets me do my 3 hour plus thing these days alas..
